The 7th edition of the Saucony Ride was my first trial of this brand. Opening the box, I was interested to see how this cushioned shoe would respond in the recent move towards all things minimalist.
First Impressions: Vibrant, Lively Shades
Weighing in at 232 grams (for my US shoe size 6) and having an 8.8mm drop from the front of the shoe to rear, the Saucony Ride 7 is a light and smart looking shoe.
Aesthetically, these shoes look the real deal. They say red is the colour of champions, and this particularly lively shade definitely caught my eye. Smart and sassy, I knew I would get noticed in these shoes. Even after a couple of long distance runs, the Saucony Ride 7 still looked like they were brand-new out of the box.
Saucony has redesigned the midfoot shank, removing the plastic and replacing with foam and rubber which has created more ground contact, better flexibility and less weight. The transition from heel-strike to toe-off was smooth. Suiting the climate here in Singapore, a light outer mesh allows for ventilation, and a moisture wicking lining keeping feet cooler during longer runs.
Let’s Go For a Run!
What I really liked is that these shoes felt fresh, almost bouncy. The support around the ankle was stable, not too tight and I felt no rubbing along the back of the ankles too. I can say I really enjoyed my long runs in these shoes.
Taking these out later in the week for interval work, the shoes felt snug, giving good lift. Venturing off road, the shoe still gave enough stability.
No Complaints, Just Wear and Run!
These shoes get a big thumbs up from me! Saucony is a brand I have not ventured to try before, but it was one I felt comfortable and light in. It’s hard to find a fault with this shoe.
Overall, the Saucony Ride 7 is a great everyday shoe for the neutral runner that provides enough cushioning without compromising on the weight.
