To be honest, the idea of running with sunglasses never crossed my mind, until my eyes felt uncomfortable during a marathon recently. I did a research about this and concluded I needed a pair of sports eyewear.
The fact that Soh Rui Yong runs with Oakley so often caught my attention. If the elite athlete loves Oakley, there must be something special about these sunglasses, I presumed.
When choosing sports sunglasses, all I want is a simple pair from a trusted brand. And Oakley Crossrange Matte Black with Prizm Black Polarized seems like a great choice for me. It’s modest and not attention-seeking, so all eyes won’t be on me when I run at public parks.
What’s in the Box?
The Oakley Crossrange comes with two sets of interchangeable temples and nose pads. One for Lifestyle, and the other one for Sports. The Lifestyle nose pads are low profile, and the temple has a sophisticated look.
The Unobtainium® Sport nose pads and temples ensure no-slip grip even with the presence of perspiration. The frame would stay comfortably in place during running, cycling, training or other outdoor activities.
Also in the box are a pouch, manual and warranty card.
How Does It Feel Running with Oakley Crossrange?
The world becomes more colourful when I run with Oakley Crossrange. The grass becomes greener, the flowers become more beautiful, and the sky becomes more vibrant, thanks to the revolutionary Prizm lens technology.
Built on decades of colour science research, the Prizm lens technology is able to control the light transmission, resulting in colours being precisely tuned to maximize contrast and enhance visibility. In short, the technology makes everything looks more colourful and sharper.
When doing long runs, sometimes I get teary eyes after spending a long time under the sun. Since UV levels are greater in tropical areas, it’s necessary to wear sunglasses that have UV protection when running for a prolonged period in countries near the equator. The Crossrange offers 100% UV protection with Plutonite® lens material. With the sunglasses on, my eyes feel more comfortable.
The Sports temples and nose pads truly fit securely to my ears and nose. The frame won’t fall out even when I was sprinting. Once in a while, the frame does slide downwards a few millimetres, but a soft push with the index finger will fix it to its original location.
I run with my phone. Occasionally, I need to see my running stats on the phone, or do a quick reply to an SMS. When I look at the phone through the sunglasses, the phone’s brightness is reduced by the lens, so, it’s quite hard to see what’s on the screen. Maybe I need to ditch my phone when going out for a run, so that I can focus on the running itself!
Runner’s Boon
- Interchangeable temples and nose pads mean you get two sunglasses’ functions with the price of one.
- If you’re always on the move and never really observe your surroundings, the Prizm lens will show you how colourful the world is.
- With Plutonite® lens material, your eyes will be protected from all harmful UV lights, including UVA, UVB, UVC as well as harmful blue light up to 400nm.
Runner’s Bane
- It’s a challenge to see your phone’s screen through the sunglasses.
- Since running with awesome sunglasses is not yet a common practice here, you might get a couple of glances from passers-by.
Oakley Crossrange is available at all authorised Oakley retailers in Singapore.
