The ninth edition of the Laguna Phuket International Marathon on 8 June 2014 is set to be a sell out for the first time in its history.
Family-Friendly Event Seeing a Record Number of Participants
Since registrations opened in September last year, more than a thousand runners have taken advantage of the early bird entry fees. This represents a year on year increase of close to 250% compared to the same time period last year. Entries will be open until the end of May but with the increase in early registrations the organizers expect the total entry limit of 6,000 runners to be reached before the entry deadline.
Event Director Roman Floesser from organizer Go Adventure Asia is very pleased with the interest in the event.
“Running is booming in Thailand right now and this is not only reflected in the sharp increase in entries for our event but can be seen at other major running events in all over the country which are all selling out at record pace now. It is great to see how more and more people are getting into the sport and enjoy the social and health benefits that come with participation in sports.”
Raising Funds for the Laguna Phuket Foundation
Apart from the marathon there will be a half marathon, 10.5km Fun, a 5km Community Walk as well as a 2km Kids race giving everyone an opportunity to participate. All races start and finish at Laguna Grove, Laguna Phuket.
Mr. Ravi Chandran, Director of Laguna Phuket enthused,
“In addition to the vibrant and energetic ambience which the Laguna Phuket International Marathon brings to our destination each year, the event has been a great platform to raise funds for Laguna Phuket Foundation, supporting the worthy cause of implementing sustainable social programmes. It is a meaningful way for our thousands of athletes from all over the world to leave a positive impact on Phuket and the surrounding areas.”
The Laguna Phuket International Marathon started in 2006 in an effort to help bring back tourists to Phuket after the December 2004 tsunami had severely affected tourist arrivals to Phuket in 2005 and early 2006. Laguna Phuket has been the host and title sponsor of the event since its inception. In addition to their sponsorship Laguna Phuket has also used the marathon to raise funds for charity.
Registrations for the Laguna Phuket International Marathon are now open. The Phuket Marathon takes place on 8 June in Phuket, Thailand.
