Jurong Lake Run 2013 saw approximately 15,000 runners taking part in this flagship running event in the west. 5,500 runners participated in the MediaCorp 10km Run. This was followed by the AIA 6km Vitality Run which saw some 3,000 runners, and an additional 6,000 participants in the 3km Community Walk-a-Jog.
In line with continuing efforts to make JLR an inclusive event for the entire family to bond through sports, the inaugural 850m Kids Dash category saw 500 young runners, aged from 1 to 12, flag off outside Jurong Secondary School and sprint towards the end point at Chinese Garden.
Runners were joined by their families and members of the community in the post-race festivities at Carnival@JLR13 in Chinese Garden. As testament of its identity as being ‘More Than Just a Run’, JLR2013’s commitment to pledge all net proceeds, including at least 20 per cent of participation fees, and contributions from corporate donors, saw $140,000 being raised for their four beneficiaries namely; Club HEAL, Lakeside Family Centre, Beacon of Life and PromisedLand Community Services.
JLR2013 also featured inspirational heroes from the community championing the values of ‘Courage’, ‘Family’, ‘Pride’, ‘Hope’ and ‘Community’.
The first mega running event of the west, JLR was initiated and continues to be organised by passionated youth volunteers from the Taman Jurong Community Sports Club.
With the success of this signature event in the west, it would only be better in 2014!
