Held for the first time in Malaysia, the ILLUMI RUN Malaysia 2018 attracted over 4,000 fun runners and festival goers to Selangor Turf Club, on 13 January 2018. The debut event saw two races in a day: ILLUMI Kids Morning Run (2km) that was flagged off at 7 a.m. and ILLUMI RUN (4km) that was flagged off at 8 p.m.
‘Neon Paradise’ was the theme of ILLUMI RUN. Along the route, there are various paradise-themed glow zones that douse participants in ILLUMI Glow Water as they run and dance along to fresh beats through the night.
5 Glow Zones
The 4-km ILLUMI RUN offers 5 incredible glow zones for its participants. The first zone is Laser Rainforest, where 3D light and neon paint are showcased together with popular fist-pumping tracks. Next, it is Candy Pop, a candy-lover’s dream where runners can find life-sized candy and rainbow sprinkles, as well as ILLUMINATORs whose main job is to shoot participants with Glow Water.
Cosmic-Land transports runners to a galaxy full of planets and stars. Then, runners enjoy a slow-paced life at A Beach Life zone, a sandy paradise featuring surfboards, glow floats, and balls. Finally, the run concludes at Flower Dreams, a glow zone that treats runners to a one-of-a-kind neon field of flowers.
After-Event Party
The fun continued beyond the run at the festival village. The ILLUMI Glow Slide cooled participants down after their run with even more ILLUMI Glow Water. Then, the ultimate ILLUMI Festival saw participants dance to LIVE acts including Dangerdisko (MY) and Jenni-F (MY). The music festival finale was definitely the kicker for the whole course as the runners ended the night on a luminescent high.
Runners’ Account
42-year-old David who joined the event together with his 12-year-son shared, “My favourite activity in ILLUMI village was definitely the ILLUMI slide! We enjoyed a dive and plunge into a pool of neon happiness as promised for a thrilling experience!”
Kar Jun and Elaine also revealed that their favourite activity for the night was the ILLUMI slide. “Laser Rainforest (Zone 1) was mind-blowing as we danced along with the adrenaline pumping tracks played and was amazed by the stunning glow paint display. We were most impressed with the DJs for the music festival.”
“Tonight was unquestionably memorable! Not forgetting the awesome neon makeover, as we had the opportunity to turn our faces into creative art pieces. We will surely look forward to another ILLUMI Run next year!” shared both friends Fatimah and Murni.
Giving Back to Community
ILLUMI RUN believes in giving back to the community. The event pledged to give monetary support to S.O.S Kids, a community support group that aims to improve the care of the critically sick and underprivileged children based in Sarawak. The funds were raised through registration fees as well as add-on donations from participants. Through ILLUMI RUN, the event hopes to raise awareness for S.O.S kids and contributes more funds towards their efforts to provide better medical care for these children.
