The Sydney Summer Twilight Series event at Shelley Beach in Manly on Friday, 16 February 2018 is one of a number of events in the Sydney Metro area over the summer.
The course runs from Shelley Beach, and follows the water’s edge right up to Queenscliff Surf Club, around surf club and back again. It’s exactly 2.5km each way, so 1 or 2 laps of 5km. There are toilets, showers, BBQ facilities and the opportunity for an ocean dip afterward!
It is organised informally by volunteer hosts, who facilitate the event on their preferred date and venue. Races are held in the twilight so that runners can race after work. All are welcome.
The philosophy of the series is: “First and foremost, all ability levels are welcome. However long it takes you to complete the distance is the time it takes you to complete the distance. Anyone who believes that there should be a time limit criteria has got the wrong series. Whether you hop skip walk fart hobble run to get the distance is irrelevant, turning up and having a go is what it is all about. If you are worried about this being elitist, you couldn’t be further off the mark.”
