Langkawi is a Malaysian tropical paradise situated 30km off the mainland coast of the Kedah state of Malaysia. The archipelago of 104 islands’ official title has been Langkawi Permata Kedah (Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah), no doubt inspired by the island’s clear waters, relatively pristine beaches and intact jungle. Being one of Malaysia’s favourite vacation spots for local and foreign tourist, it is surprising to see that the archipelago have not been overdeveloped beyond recognition. Get just a little way off the main beaches and this is idyllic rural Malaysia, with traditional kampung (villages) and a laid-back vibe. It’s the kind of tropical island where there’s no lack of spas, seafood restaurants and beach bars, but where the locals continue to go about their ways just as they have for generations.
In the centre of this archipelago is their largest island, Pulau Langkawi which will be the centre point for ultra runners this 17th of July 2016. Runners from all over the world are invited to come witness and experience this inaugural event which will see endurance athletes journey round the entire Pulau Langkawi. This is a one of a kind event in Malaysia which will see runners take in the scenes and landscape of this tropical island on foot. We’re excited about this and we hope to see you there!
