Tough Mudder recently concluded its third New South Wales event on October 12 and 13, which was held at Sydney Motorsport Park and Sydney Dragway for the first time.
Dubbed “Probably the Toughest Event on the Planet,” each Tough Mudder challenge consists of a unique, approximately 20 kilometre trail run over rugged terrain, featuring steep inclines, thick mud and military-style obstacles testing one’s toughness, fitness, strength, stamina, mental grit and teamwork.
Drew Ward, Managing Director of Tough Mudder Australasia, said: “We always have a strong response in NSW, and we’re sure the newest venue pushed Mudders to their limits.”
And the new venue indeed was a tough one. Over 12000 Sydneysiders braved the gruelling course, which features a series of military-style obstacles, including three-metre-high walls, mud pits, ice baths and a field of live wires containing up to 10000 volts of electricity.
While some participants are drawn to the physical challenge, others sign up for Tough Mudder events because, unlike other endurance events, it’s not about who’s first past the finish line. Teamwork and camaraderie are at the heart of the Tough Mudder experience as some obstacles are virtually impossible to complete as an individual.
The 2013 Tough Mudder series includes 53 events taking place across various cities in Australia, Asia, and worldwide.
