Is your appetite for adventure whet? If so, here’s one trail run news titbit you don’t want to miss out on! Plus, what can we say? It’ll be a mind-blowing way to start your new year on the right foot—clad in your favourite, broken-in trail performance shoe, of course!
Set in the picturesque district of Amphoe Pak Chong, which is nestled in Nakhon Ratchasima province, lies the epic trail route for The North Face 100® Thailand 2016. Scheduled for Saturday, 30 January 2016, the international trail running challenge has already seen 2,000 sign ups and counting from Thailand and around the world.
When we started The North Face 100® Thailand five years ago trail running was new to Thailand. Today we can see how the sport has grown in popularity. There will be a large number of Thai runners taking part again in 2016 and being ‘Thailand’s Ultimate Trail Running Challenge’ and having been approved as a Qualifying Race for Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® for four consecutive years, we expect to welcome more than 40 nationalities of runners from around the world also.
—Mr. Chanai Payakkapan, Brand Manager of Thai Outdoor Sport Co. Ltd., exclusive distributor of The North Face® in Thailand
The North Face 100® Thailand 2016 offers a number of distances for all levels of trail runners: 100 km Solo, 100 km Duo, 50 km, 25 km, and 15 km. Starting and finishing at Simalin resort in Amphoe Pak Chong, the route will create a unique trail running adventure for runners as they are taken through challenging, yet fascinatingly beautiful trails surrounding Khao Yai National Park.
Ultra runners, who will be flagging off from 5:00 a.m., can expect to tackle a total elevation gain of 2,664 metres, with the highest point at 593 metres above sea-level. 100 km distance runners will be covering the 50 km course twice.
Meanwhile, the 25 km and 15 km categories will commence at 7:00 and 7:30 a.m. respectively, with runners expected to finish within the cut-off times of 5.5 hours and 3.5 hours.
With just steep challenges, comes worthwhile rewards: the top three in each ultra-run category will earn cash vouchers, while trophies will be awarded to the top three of each ultra-run category, as well as the top three of every age group in the 25 km and 15 km races.
Of course, the best rewards – besides the finisher’s certificates and medals – are irrefutably the personal achievement of tackling these demanding trails, the enriching experience, and spectacular views of being amidst such rich natural sceneries.
