If you are a serious runner in Singapore, you’ve probably run all the possible areas on this island. But the best thing about Singapore is that we continue to innovate and create new livable places even with our limited amount of land as we continue our quest to build a smart nation.
Let’s welcome the new Tengah Estate.
Tengah will be Singapore’s 24th HDB town after Punggol which was developed two decades ago. The new town the size of Bishan will be built in the west, with green features to suits its surrounding greenery and biodiversity to be in line with the Government’s push to be green and sustainable.
The masterplan for Tengah was unveiled by the Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong at the HDB Awards Ceremony on 8 September. The Tengah area today is mostly forest and scrubland located between Jurong East to the south, Choa Chu Kang to the north and Bukit Batok to the east.
The Tengah new town will be Singapore’s largest smart sustainable town that brings runners and resident up close to nature.
The development will include a forest fringe that will run around the 700ha town and a 100m-wide, 5km-long forest corridor will link Tengah to the surrounding green network between the western and central catchment areas.
As part of Singapore’s car-lite efforts, runners can be content with the dedicated walking and cycling paths as the roads will be constructed underneath the town centre offering residents a greener, car-lite and pedestrian-friendly environment.
There will also be a large Central Park located at the heart of Tengah. It will be about 20ha, the size of Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West and include a Forest Amphitheatre and water bodies such as the Tengah Pond and Forest Stream.
The whole town will be surrounded by a continuous stretch of lush greenery of the forest fringe.
Are you excited to move in this new neighbourhood? The first batch of flats in Tengah will be launched from 2018 onwards in the Plantation District.
