With 2014 being the 27th year since its inception, the Seremban Half Marathon has a storied history.
This year’s race distances will include the 21km half marathon and 10km run. Additionally, there will also be a special 3km category that will be free for the physically handicapped.
Keeping Fit and Having Fun
The inaugural Seremban Half Marathon first started in 1987, and saw over 4,000 runners taking part. The grand prize of a single-storey terrace house in Taman Tuanku Ja’afar donated by Naga Sakti Sdn Bhd was definitely a crowd puller back then!
The 10th Anniversary Run in 1997 saw the creation of the VIP FUN RUN. Participants included YAM Tunku Naquiyuddin himself and the then Menteri Besar YAB Dato Seri Utama Tan Sri Haji Mohd Isa bin Dato Haji Abdul Samad who emerged an easy winner.
From 2002 onwards, the popularity of the Seremban Half Marathon gained momentum. 3 schools in Seremban challenged each other to send the highest number of participants for which the school would be rewarded with RM$1,000 prize money kindly donated by Nestle Products Sdn Bhd. This was the first time the number of participants crossed the 8,000 mark.
2008 marked the 21st Run with close to 9,000 participants taking part. Their Royal Highnesses, Tuanku Ja’afar and Tuanku Ampuan graced the prize-giving ceremony, while the audience were held spell-bound to a superb lion dance acrobatic display on high stilts.
A Smoother Race for Runners This Year
Previous concerns regarding last year’s route through traffic will be addressed with cooperation from the local police and RELA officials. There are 2 water stations for half marathon participants, with drinks sponsored by Permanis.
The 27th Seremban Half Marathon will take place on 17 August at the MPS Padang, Jalan Yam Tuan, Seremban.
