Jointly organised by SAFRA and the Army with the aim of promoting fitness and bonding among SAF active servicemen, NSmen and their families, The SAFRA Singapore Bay Run & Army Half Marathon (SSBR & AHM) attracted over 42,000 participants last year.
This year, the SSBR & AHM 2017 will take place on Sunday, 20 August 2017. The race will flag off at Esplanade Bridge and conclude at the Padang. There will be fun-filled activities for national servicemen and their families to enjoy after the run at the Padang.
Singapore Armed Forces National Servicemen (SAF NSmen) and their family members will continue to enjoy special rates across all categories as a recognition for their contributions to Singapore’s defence and support for NS respectively.
In addition to its four established run categories – the 21km Army Half Marathon, SAFRA 10km Race, SAFRA 5km Fun Run and 800m Family Challenge – SSBR & AHM 2017 introduces a new category called NS50 Team Run.
NS50 Team Run
The NS50 Team Run category aims to provide the opportunity for past and present SAF NSmen to gather and further strengthen their NS bonding, which was forged through common experiences and shared contributions in serving the nation.
In NS50 Team Run category, each team consists of 10 runners, who will complete 5km together to clock a total distance of 50km to commemorate 50 Years of National Service (NS50) and the event’s Silver Jubilee. Participants of NS50 Team Run category will receive limited edition finisher tees and special commemorative medals.
Colonel (NS) Simon Lim, Chairman of the SSBR & AHM 2017 organising committee and Director of National Service Affairs, Ministry of Defence, remarked,
“This is a significant year as we commemorate the role of NS and the contributions of generations of national servicemen in Singapore’s continued stability and progress. The NS50 Team Run is one of the many initiatives that we will be introducing at this year’s event. The commitment of our NSmen has played a critical role in enabling us to achieve this significant milestone, and we hope that many of them will participate in this new category to rekindle their NS friendships, to join the run together and keep their camaraderie strong.”

All participants of the 21km Army Half Marathon, SAFRA 10km Race, SAFRA 5km Fun Run and NS50 Team Run categories will receive:

+Only applicable to family members (parents, siblings, spouse and children) of registered active servicemen and NSmen. Family members must be nominated to enjoy the SAF Family rate.
