It’s just days away from Southeast Asia’s marquee annual road race, the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2018 (SCSM 218) and thousands of participants have already signed up for this smashing event of the year.
In preparation for this massive event, the organisers have made many calls to ensure minimal traffic disruptions and smooth access for the general public living and working around the vicinity.
Key Changes to Note
The race will flag-off from the F1 Pit Building and will finish at The Float @ Marina Bay. The route will pass through Nicoll Highway, East Coast Park, the Marina and Downtown Core, the Central Business District, West Coast Highway and Sentosa Gateway. On the 8th December 2018 (Saturday), these affect roads will be closed from 12:01 AM – 11:00 AM for the National Steps Challenge (NSC) 5km and 10km race and on the 9th December 2018 (Sunday), these affected roads will be closed from 12:01 a.m – 2:00 p.m.
Facilitating a Smoother Traffic Flow
To provide a greater experience for the runners, race planning has been done in close moderation with relevant authorities to minimise disruption for road users and those who live and work around the area. Routes to emergency/essential services such as hospitals shall remain accessible throughout the duration of the event.
Roads will progressively re-open after all participants have cleared each segment of the route itself. Traffic wardens will be on-sight at all affected roads to help redirect traffic and assist the public alternative routes to their destinations. Road closure information and re-directional signs will be put up along the roads from Monday, 26th November 2018.
Alternative Public Transport Arrangements
Train services will halt during the early hours of the weekend. Thus, partnering with ShareTransport, shuttle bus services will be available from 47 different pick-up locations island-wide to transport runners directly to the start point. Non-participants are recommended to plan their journeys ahead of time or rather make use of public transportations during the affected times of both 8th & 9th December 2018.
Both SCSM 2018 participants and non-participants with any enquiries about the road closures may call the SCSM 2018 Road Closure hotline at 6701 1230. The hotline will be available from 9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m. from 26th November to 7th December 2018, and will be available 24 hours on both 8th and 9th December. For those who are interested may also wish to download Waze, a GPS navigation application, which will be updated to reflect road closures.
