Project Love Sneaker is a shoe-donation drive organised by Running Lab to serve the running community’s desire to recycle their “retired” running shoes that are still in good condition. Not wanting to simply dispose these shoes, runners who are searching for alternative channels to re-distribute these shoes look forward to this shoe-donation drive and a total of 1,230 shoes were collected over a month last year.
Donate Your Shoes and Get S$50 Off New Ones
The concept is simple. Donate your used running shoes in clean and re-usable condition during the donation drive and receive a S$50 voucher which can be used to purchase a new pair of shoes.
The shoe-donation drive, which started in 2008, is now in its 4th year running and will be held from 1 to 30 April at all Running Lab stores. This year, Running Lab will be partnering with New Hemispheres and a team of passionate young adults from the National University of Singapore to donate the shoes collected to Hope Village Cambodia, located at Kampong Speu Province, 30km from Phnom Penh.
Helping The Village Of Kampong Speu In Cambodia
Hope Village Cambodia is a village located at Kampong Speu Province, 30km from Phnom Penh. 76 families of almost 500 people from infants to aged are now staying there. Homes are still primitive in self-made straw houses that need to be rebuilt every year until such time as wooden houses on stilts or brick houses can be built for them.
The villagers have cleared the agricultural plots which are now ready for planting. 2 ponds have been built to ease water shortage during the dry season. Since March 2012, food rations comprising of rice, eggs, fish paste and dried fish have been given to each family for their sustenance, until such time as their crops can generate some income for them.
Project Love Sneaker is currently underway, and will last until 30 April. Simply go to any Running Lab branch and donate your “retired” running shoes that are still in good condition, and receive a S$50 shoe voucher.
