How deep blue can a lake be? How many different shades of green can there be? Discover the answers as you explore the stunning, untouched wilderness in northern Mongolia.
Wild horses and yaks. Seas of wild flowers. Craggy mountains. Windblown lowlands. Marshy, remote forests. And the deep blue pear of Mongolia, Lake Hovsgol. These spectacular sights are just some of the amazing things to expect at the 18th Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset (MS2S).
Happening on 3 August 2016, the MS2S is a non-profit run with a 42 km full marathon distance and a 100 km ultra trail run. Not only is it beautiful but also challenging: the accumulated elevation gain/loss more than 2,200 metres in the marathon distance and more than 3,300 metres in the 100 km ultra.
Despite the challenges, the race drew an international crowd from no less than 22 countries. With a cut-off time at 18 hours for the ultra, strong-spirited and well-trained runners can finish well.
All proceeds from the event will go towards keeping Hovsgol National Park clean and pristine, as well as to support the local nomadic culture. The Switzerland-registered ‘ecoLeap foundation’ supports a variety of preservation projects in the park, where two small Mongolian towns and scores of nomadic groups and families reside.
We want to keep this pristine mountain area as beautiful as it is now. That is why we fund a litter control project and its ongoing operation including hiring park rangers, providing eco-friendly garbage bags and raising awareness nation-wide through TV ads and education of local children and families.
It is not only the pristine nature that makes this part of the world so special. It is also the unique culture of the nomads and their way of life. The nomads should be proud of their abilities and culture.
