Want a taste of hiking through jungle trails? Or want a challenging trail run not far from home? Then don’t miss Selangor’s frontier challenge: KubUltra!
Happening on Saturday, 5 March 2016, the trail event will be held at Millennium Park. Explore jungle trails near Kuala Kubu Bharu, an enchanting township which looks as if time has come to a standstill. Located in Selangor, Malaysia, the area is known for its impressive and beautiful waterfalls, perfect for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Organised by Asian Trail Explorers, the trail event consists of five categories suited for every fitness level. Whether you’re new and want to be introduced to hiking and trail running, moderately fit, or are a trail enthusiast looking for a new challenge, there’s an unforgettable outdoor adventure waiting for you:
- KubUltra 5
This recreational hike/ run will be a fun day out for children, families and newcomers. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the maximum advised hiking or running time for this 5.2 km category is 3 hours. While it is open to anyone aged 12 and above, children aged 5 to 11 can also join with parental guidance.
- KubUltra 10
Scheduled to start at 8:30 am., this 10 km course is designed for children, families, newcomers, not-so-fit hikers and runners. Likewise for KubUltra5, the minimum age to participate is 12 years, but children aged 10-11 can take part if accompanied by an adult.
- KubUltra 20
For those who are not ready yet to go longer distances, but still want a challenge, there is 20 km course. Beginning at 8:00 a.m., participants will complete a loop before heading to the finish. Suitable as a casual hike or trail run for youths aged 16 and above, this category is also a good pace hike/ trail run for adults.
- KubUltra 40
For those willing to push themselves, they can go for the 40 km course which wil flag off at 7:00 a.m. Participants aged 18 and above are expected to finish hiking or running in 11 hours.
- KubUltra 60
Prepared to leave your comfort zone? Then you’re probably an avid trail hiker/ runner looking for the real deal. The first to hit the trails at 6:00 a.m., you will have 14 hours to finish a 60 km course with nine uphill sections.
Although participants are expected to be self-sufficient during the event, there will be several marshals monitoring the event along the way to assist you. There will also be a number of water, isotonic drink and fruit stations along the courses. Energy gel will be provided for the 40 km and 60 km participants.
Participants in all the categories will get to cross three streams, and will be challenged in varying uphill sections. For more details, check out this handy overview.
The top 10 participants in the 10, 20, 40 and 60 km categories will receive monetary prizes.
What’s Else Is In It For Me?
All participants will each receive a goodie bag, a participant’s T-shirt, as well as a finisher’s T-shirt and certificate. Participants in the KubUltra10, 20, 40 and 60 categories will get to bring home finisher T-shirts too.
Enjoy a cooked meal at the end of your hike or run. Then round off the day in a fun-filled carnival with your family and the new friends you’ve forged along the way. Still want more adrenaline rush? There are a number of exciting activities to look forward to! Heart-pumping paragliding, scenic hot air balloon rides, a thrilling ghost house, cool game booths, grooving along to live buskers, and more—you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Besides having a memorable time, you’ll feel good on the inside too. For every participant, organisers will donate RM 5 to The Olive Project, an initiative that meets socio-economic community needs.
