Just two hours from Jakarta, lies the Taman Nasional Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP). There, flora and fauna thrives on the tropical rainforest mountains, including more than 100 species of mammals like the mouse-deer and endangered Javan gibbon, as well as 250 species of birds.
Supported by TNGGP, FOneSport, who specialises in trail events in Indonesia’s rich and diverse natural landscape, will be organising the Gede Pangrango Marathon (GPM). Open to all male or female runners aged 18 and above, the trail run will take place on Saturday, 7 May 2016.
A 42 km full marathon, 21 km half marathon and 15 km race will start and finish at Cibodas, a tourist market area.
100 full marathoners will flag off first at 5:00 a.m. In 16 hours and under, they have to tackle mountainous terrain and steep uphill climbs over a 4,000 metre cumulative altitude gain.
Starting an hour later at 6:00 a.m., 200 half marathoners and 200 15 km runners will take on their respective challenges.
The overall top three male and female champions in each distance category will be awarded prizes.
Joining the GPM will qualify runners for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB), dubbed the “World Cup of trail running”.
