Taking place in the heart and centre of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the 5th Phnom Penh Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, 31 May 2015. Expecting crowds of multi-national participants, the international event will guide runners along four rivers through the bustling city centre.
Not only will this annual event be celebrating Queen Norodom Monineath Sihanouk’s birthday, but it will also be held in conjunction with World Environment Day as well as to commemorate the 120th Olympic Day. In the spirit of boosting well-being and friendships, this meaningful occasion will also be supporting the Kantha Bopha Children’s Hospitals.
Three race categories are open to local and international runners: 21.2km Half Marathon, 10km Race, and a 3km Fun Run for parents and children or anyone who just wants to have fun.
Flagging off first at 6:00 a.m., the Half Marathon will start from the front of Cambodia’s beautiful Royal Palace and will bring runners along an AIMS certified course through the city. Meanwhile, the other two categories will start shortly after at 6:10 a.m. and 6:15 a.m.
Built over a century ago, the Royal Palace is a striking structure overlooking the riverfront and accentuating the Phnom Penh skyline with its classic Khmer roofs and ornate details. To this day, it serves as a performance venue for court ceremonies and rituals in addition to being the residence for the King of Cambodia, his family and foreign dignitaries. Except for the actual royal residence area, the Khemarin Palace, most of the grounds, manicured tropical gardens and Silver Pagoda compound are open to the public.
Finishing where they started, runners will be welcomed back at the Runner Meeting Area with gusto. Look forward to the variety of booths that will await you, or simply unwind by exploring the adjacent manicured tropical gardens.
