Mr. Kali Kondury, spokesperson for Hyderabad Runners, said,
“We expect runners from across the city, nation, and overseas locations participating in the categories of Full Marathon (42.2km), Half Marathon (21.1km) and 5km distances. In a short span of 4 years, Airtel Hyderabad Marathon has attained the twin distinctions of Best Organized Marathon, and India’s Toughest City Marathon. While the event is growing exponentially, we have remained true to our motto of providing the best running experience to every runner in a safe and enjoyable environment. Our goal is to bring a truly world-class marathon event to Hyderabad and the nation.”
Join Specialised Training Sessions For Free!
In order to ensure runners are well-prepared for race day, specialised training sessions are being organised each week at the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park and other locations free of cost, providing a platform for runners to interact with experts and receive professional advice on running healthily and safely. During practice sessions, as an additional measure, all amateur runners are designated an expert runner running alongside to ensure safety.
Since its first edition in 2011, the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon has seen an unprecedented 9-fold increase in participation, and this year’s event is slated to be marked as the largest professional running events ever in the city.
Raising Funds and Collecting Used Shoes in the Name of Charity
Airtel Hyderabad Marathon has always been committed to helping those in need. Over the years, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of rupees for charity. This year is no exception, as over 30 lakhs (approx. US$49,750) is expected to be raised for charities such as Isha Vidhya, Waste Warriors, Asha, and Desire Society.
Yet another charity initiative of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon is Soles for Souls. Building on the tremendous success of this project last year, efforts are being doubled to collect thousands of pairs of used shoes to be distributed to the needy. With participants’ gracious support, the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon will provide an invaluable opportunity to thousands of under privileged citizens to enjoy the joy of running.
