Savour Singapore’s “Wild, Wild West”, embrace its natural beauty and enjoy the lush greenery of the Lim Chu Kang enclave at the first-ever Kranji Countryside Run! To be held on Sunday, 11 August 2013, this inaugural run is jointly organized by the Kranji Countryside Association (KCA) and Pink Apple, with Mr K. Shanmugam, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law as Guest-of-Honour.
A Run with a Difference
The event is open to serious runners and families alike, and will feature an 8km competitive route as well as a 4km fun run. Both routes encompass road, trail and farms, enabling participants to take in the lush greenery of the Neo Tiew area, experience a paved jungle trail along Turut track and run through Bollywood Veggies, Singapore’s largest banana farm.
More importantly, the Kranji Countryside Run will offer Singaporeans, expatriates and tourists a true taste of the great outdoors, whilst engaging them in community bonding, health, sustainability and the heritage of the Kranji countryside, one of Singapore’s last remaining natural, rural spaces.
Fringe Activities
Following the morning Run, participants are invited to a carnival and exhibition presented by KCA, The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) at NSRCC Kranji Sanctuary. Fun-filled activities that will bring children back to nature abound. These include farm displays of live quails, frogs and goats, as well as providing a further glimpse of farming in Singapore. To revivify community bonding in true “kampong spirit”, a series of traditional games await the entire family. SCDF and RSAF will specially present educational exhibitions as part of their community outreach programmes.
Kranji Expedition
To complete this special Sunday, the Kranji Expedition will be presented to families and those who wish to visit the many farms or purchase local, farm fresh produce. From 9am to 12pm, shuttles will be provided at 20-minute intervals from NSRCC with drop offs at D’Kranji Farm Resort, Bollywood Veggies, Hay Dairies, Jurong Frog Farm, Kin Yan Agrotech, Nyee Phoe Flower Garden and Hausmann Marketing Aquarium.
So do save the date – Sunday, 11 August 2013 and be part of the Kranji Countryside Run, for a true taste of Singapore’s “Wild, wild West” where nature beckons!
