If challenging terrain, boring track venues or unimaginative routes leave you feeling that there are no new territories to conquer when it comes to running events on diverse topography, how about the Orchid Country Club where duffers will stay away from the golf course to make room for runners, walkers and stroller-driving families on 29th July?
You read that correctly. Runners are once again invited to participate in a multi-category running experience that offers race enthusiasts choices at the Nee Soon Fiesta 3Ten Run 2017.
Sign up for the 10km competitive event and see how it feels to traverse territory that is so carefully groomed year-round, you couldn’t run into an obstacle if you tried! Alternately, the same golf course invites those who prefer a less taxing experience to run the 5km.
Not your cup of tea either? Take the third option: join families intending to show up with and without strollers to participate in the 1.5km Family Run open to groups large and small. All of the festivities get going on the evening of 29th July, so hold a family meeting today and form your team.
Who’s behind this race?
This third annual event is the brainchild of a consortium of grassroots groups like Nee Soon GRC, OCC, Run Singapore and organisations promoting Singapore’s health and welfare initiatives designed to assist citizens in their efforts to stay active.
You won’t need permission to race around the 27-hole golf course—or worry about trampling the carefully manicured grass–because this special evening affair is all about community connections, family fun and the nation’s commitment to health and fitness.
Members of Orchid Country Club are invited to leave their clubs home and see how it feels to run rather than stroll the 27 holes, but just about everyone else in Singapore who registers gains admittance to this exclusive club for the evening.
Pick the race category that best suits your skill and goals from the menu at Spacebib.
This is the event for everybody!
If you happen to be competitive and take every run you choose as seriously as you do your job or obligations, the 10km category delivers what you require and since cut-off time doesn’t begin until three hours after the first flag-off, even if you get to the club a little late, you can still turn in a great performance.
Your participation will be worth your while whether or not you achieve a personal best because you could return home with trophies and cash prizes worth up to $500 if you cross the finish line ahead of the pack.
But let’s say you’re neither ready for a 10km nor do you have children. The 5km fun run should satisfy you nicely, giving you the confidence you need to start building your running reputation.
On the other hand, if you’ve been waiting for an opportunity to involve the entire family by deferring to the slowest runners in your clan, this is your race, too. Register your family. Form a team of two or more people. Break out your stroller so the littlest members of your family aren’t left behind.
See and be seen
Run. Walk. Stroll. Exercise your wrist, too, as you meet and greet honorary guests committed to being on hand when the 3Ten Run flags off. Race organisers are thrilled to announce that among the dignitaries to appear to wish participants good luck are Minister of Home Affairs and Minister of Law K. Shanmugam, Parliamentary Secretary Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Dr. Lee Bee Wah, Kwek Hian Chuan Henry and Louis Ng Kwok Kwang.
On the other hand, Mums and Dads may be more inclined to sign up for this golf course run to spend time with people who are even more important than those dignitaries: their beloved family members.
Open to grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and other extended kin, this stroller-friendly 1.5km event is all about traversing the golf course in the cool of the evening to show the world that fitness is a family affair.
Details, details, details
Because this popular event combines an actual competition with family-focused activity, everyone registering gets a taste of marathon life. Entry packs will be available earlier than usual so busy families can get their stuff at their convenience at Event Square; 1 Pasir Ris Close on 15th or 16th July.
Included in this bounty are specially-designed t-shirts to commemorate your participation, lots of goodies from generous sponsors eager to step up and be part of this important happening and everything culminates with a festive, conveniently-close Race Village experience where entertainment for all gets top billing.
A camera will be as essential as your running shoes since the evening sky makes an ideal background for capturing memories. No props necessary as the sun sinks in the sky and floods the golf course with golden light. Since everyone will be wearing a race t-shirt, no wardrobe coordination is required, either.
Could there possibly be a down side to your opportunity to share the day doing what you like with the people you adore? We can’t think of a single one!
Is it hard to find events that offer a variety of opportunities for Singaporeans of all ages and stages of life, or are you perfectly satisfied that organisers work hard to cater to anyone interested in being part of the nation’s running scene?
