Nike has revealed a new running shoe that will serve a runner’s key needs: fit, feel and force. Featuring a revolutionary mid-height collar design and a new tooling system, the LunarEpic Flyknit offers a new running experience.
Taking insight from the popular Nike’s Magista football boot, the LunarEpic Flyknit allows the foot, ankle and lower leg to work together as a single unit to emphasize natural movement and a feeling of fluidity.
The conception of the LunarEpic Flyknit began over 18 months ago. According to Tae Lee, designer of LunarEpic Flyknit,
The goal with LunarEpic Flyknit is to bring runners an experience they have never had before. Regardless of how far a runner chooses to go, we wanted to make a shoe that made every mile – from the first to the fiftieth – feel exceptional.
About the New Nike LunarEpic Flyknit
A lightweight, breathable, one-piece Nike Flyknit upper was built to engineer different densities into the knit for precise support at the arch, heel and forefoot. The mid-height collar was added to ease lockdown, with knitted Nike Flywire cables for extra strength and a close, dynamic fit.
At the shoe’s midsole, the designers employed a new dual-injection technology which uses heat instead of glue to fuse two foams into one piece that features the traditional Lunarlon construction, with an IU foam carrier and soft IP core. The laser siping on the side of the midsole enhance cushioning and targeted flexibility.
Following next, a rubber-free outsole inspired by pressure maps of the foot enable wear for an exceptional ride. Maximizing both cushioning and traction, it provides top heel-to-toe transitions and propelling energy return.
