Ways to enter the race
1. Ballot entry
The ballot entry system will be opened on Monday, 30 April 2018 and ends on Friday, 4 May 2018 at 5 p.m. The ballot will be opened for five days to give everyone a fair chance of entering the event. It will be on a random and not decided on a first-come-first-serve basis. If you are successful in the ballot, you’ll be notified in the first week of October 2018.
2. Overseas entry
The overseas entry ballot system is opened on Monday, 30 April 2018 and ends on Friday, 4 May 2018 at 5 p.m.
3. Charity entry
If you are planning to join the event by running for charity, you can do so by applying directly to the charity of your choice to see if they’ve got any places to offer you. This is less time pressured but if you leave it too long, places do get filled up. There are usually more runners that are interested in running for each charity, so the charities will select their runners based on the runner’s connection with the good cause and how much money they are able to raise for the charity.
The list of charities that have guaranteed places in the marathon is available here.
4. Good For Age entry
The Good for Age entry will be opened on 1 August 2018 and ends on 10 August 2018 at 4 p.m. The entries for Good for Age will be capped at 6,000 places. 3,000 places for women and 3,000 places for men. Only those who achieve the qualifying time between 1 January 2017 and 10 August 2018 will be eligible for the Good for Age application for the 2019 Virgin Money London Marathon.
