After consecutive sold-out successes, The Green Corridor Run 2015 promises to up their game. This year, it will be held in conjunction with Singapore’s World Water Day celebrations with a unique challenge!
Happening on Sunday, 8 March 2015, the Green Corridor Run will trail along one of Singapore’s most fascinatingly beautiful stretches of natural land. Beginning at the historic Tanjong Pagar Rail Station, the 10.5km course winds along the ‘Green Corridor’ to finish at the old Bukit Timah Rail Station.
An uninterrupted stretch of greenery and woodlands, the ‘Green Corridor’, runs the entire length of Singapore, from the southern old Tanjong Pagar Rail Station to the Malaysia border in the north. Formerly, the start of a rail network was planned to extend all the way to Russia—Russia! Today, this remarkable strip of ecological and culturally significant land is open for the public to enjoy.
“Imagine running half of Singapore south to north without having to cross any roads and enjoying the view of a different side of Singapore with its greenery. At times along the Green Corridor you actually don’t feel that you are in Singapore,” says Leong Kwok Peng, Vice President of the Nature Society (Singapore), the official charity partner of the Green Corridor Run.
New 2015 Challenge
In an exciting development for the race, The Green Corridor Run 2015 will be held conjointly with Singapore’s World Water Day celebrations. A United Nations initiative to aid 768 million people deprived of fresh drinking water and sanitation, World Water Day (WWD) also advocates for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
To help raise awareness, a new Water Challenge race category will be launched. Unlike anything else in Singapore, you will experience first-hand what it is like for 44% of the world’s population who have to walk long distances to fetch clean water for their families’ daily use.
Are you willing to carry a 3 to 5L bucket or jerry can brimming with water from race start to finish? For every litre of water that is poured into the ceremonial well at the finish area, the organisers will donate S$1 to charity: water, a non-profit organisation that runs sustainable water projects to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. The raw water, or an equivalent, used in the Water Challenge will be recycled after the event. If you would like to run without carrying water, you can do so too.
There will be four waves in total—Waves 1, 2 and 3 will be dedicated to normal race running categories, which will start flagging off at 9:00 a.m., with each subsequent wave following suit in 20min intervals. The fourth wave with the Water Challenge category will head off at 10.00 a.m.
Standard individual packages are priced at S$58. If you form a team of at least 8 people, you can pay just S$43 each.
Hurry though! The number of participants is limited, so register early!
