Following the success of ASICS City Relay Bangkok in March 2016 and Kuala Lumpur in May 2016, the highly anticipated night relay run has descended upon Singapore and will be taking off on Saturday, 24 September 2016 at 6 p.m. at the Singapore Sports Hub.
Back for the second year running, the ASICS City Relay Singapore gives running enthusiasts an unparalleled adrenaline mix of team spirit and performance all in one race.
Race Format
ASICS City Relay Singapore 2016 offers 2 distances: Half Marathon (21km) and Marathon (42km), and participants can register as male, female or mixed teams. Corporate and Student categories are also available for those eligible. Each runner will form a 4-person team and complete a total distance of either 5.25km or 10.5km.
New to the event this year, the half marathon category (21km) was introduced by IRONMAN Asia – the new event organiser for this event, which aims to reach out to aspiring runners who would like to join in and build their first race momentum with the company of their teammates. The shorter distance, 5.25km per runner, will appeal greatly to beginners.
On the other hand, the marathon category caters to the competitive runners who are up for a bigger challenge and a longer distance of 10.5km per runner.
The ASICS City Relay Singapore 2016 presents a new set of challenges where running as a team is about getting every runner’s momentum in tandem and putting aside differences for a common goal.
The unique format of the relay will see each team member running either 1 or 2 laps around the Singapore Sports Hub precinct and along the Kallang River.
All relay changeovers will take place within the National Stadium in the Singapore Sports Hub, where participants can prepare for their race or cool down within a designated athlete zone on the pitch.
A giant LED screen will also be on site within the stadium to provide live results, keeping all updated on the teams in the lead as the relay progresses.
Participation will be capped at 1,500 teams, essentially 6,000 runners, to ensure the best running experience for all. The price category (per team of 4) is:
- 42km – $220 for Early Bird, $240 for Normal
- 21km – $200 for Early Bird, $220 for Normal
Expect the Tri-National Teams
Returning to home ground this year, ASICS City Relay Singapore 2016 will also invite and host the top team with the fastest timing from each of the previous editions held in Singapore, Bangkok, and Malaysia.
These 3 teams will fly in to compete in the Singapore 2016 leg and vie for the top spot in the name of camaraderie and teamwork.
Don’t miss out on this unique night relay run. Hurry and form a team with your running buddies and sign up now! Registration closes on 12 September 2016.
