The third annual Mount Fuji Marathon is held in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. This beautiful race laps both Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Saiko. It will start out flat, then runners will encounter a hill in between the two lakes. This offers even more fantastic and breathtaking views of the lakes, bridge and especially the famed national symbol of Japan, Mount Fuji.
Temperatures are expected to be at a low of approximately 5 degrees Celsius during the start of the race, and it gets warmer later in the day. There is low probability of rain and wind. This is your perfect chance to get your personal best timing!
To get to the starting point, international runners can stay in one of the many nearby hotels or accommodation near Shinjuku Station, and make their way to the race venue early in the morning by train.
The starting and finishing line will be at the Funatsuhama Parking Area. There will be prizes up to 8th place in both the female and male divisions. Participation prizes for everyone include a Mizuno commemoration t-shirt and Swans commemoration sunglasses.
Quick Facts about Mount Fuji
Mount Fuji is classified as a currently restless volcano, although it has not erupted since December 31, 1707. This event, referred to as the great Hoei eruption, was its largest recorded.
Over 300,000 climbers ascend Mount Fuji each year. It takes hikers an average of about eight hours one way, and there are several rest stops available along the paved paths. One popular hike is the midnight hike, where hikers ascend throughout the night in order to watch the sunrise from the vantage point of the summit.
After the race, enjoy Mount Fuji at a more leisurely pace; head to the Fuji Five Lake (Fujigoko) region at the northern foot of the mountain, or to Hakone, a nearby hot spring resort.
