Healthy living is a walk in the park with the Jurong Lake Run 2013 (JLR2013) returning on Sunday, 7 July 2013. This not-for-profit community event will include a new addition of the non-competitive 850m Kids Dash for children under the age of 13 with exclusive finisher medals for participants. This is in addition to the non-competitive 3km walk-a-jog, 6km and 10km competitive categories. To date, approximately 5,000 participants have already signed up for this annual event.
More Than Just a Run
The 850m Kids Dash is part of JLR’s continued efforts to build an active, vibrant and socially-connected community through running. The theme for JLR2013 is ‘More Than Just a Run’. Runners will experience a scenic route through Jurong Lake Park, Chinese Garden and Japanese Garden in their run for charity.
JLR2013 will contribute all net proceeds (including at least 20 per cent of participation fees) to four beneficiaries this year: Club Heal, Lakeside Family Centre, Beacon of Life and Promisedland Community Services. The cheque presentation ceremony will be held during the Carnival@JLR2013, which will also feature a host of performances, activities as well as the award ceremony for race winners.
Commenting on the initiative,
Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam said: “Jurong Lake Run is a signature event in the West, attracting participants from all over the island to run as one. The route is scenic, and part of the Jurong Lake District that is being transformed over the next few years. It is also encouraging to see how an event driven by the passion of youth volunteers has become an essential event on Singapore’s race calendar.”
“AIA Singapore is proud to support Jurong Lake Run for the 3rd year as a testimony to our commitment to bring real change to Singaporeans’ health.
